The first University of Staffordshire Silent Book Club will be held on 28 September at 2pm, in the Student Hub on the Leek Road campus, Stoke-on-Trent.

There is no need to book, just turn up!

Silent Book Club ® is a global community of readers, with nearly 2000 chapters in 55+ countries around the world led by local volunteers. SBC members gather in public at bars, cafés, bookstores, libraries, and online to read together in quiet camaraderie.

Silent Book Clubs meet in person regularly. This chapter plans to meet on Wednesday afternoons twice each semester. We spend the first half-hour socializing and grabbing drinks/food, then we start an hour of silent reading, and we finish with a half-hour talking about what we read.

Bring your current read, a friend, or come alone! You can choose to read for pleasure or may want to use the time to crack that textbook chapter you’ve been trying to focus on... the choice is yours!

We will have a host at our location to help guide you to our group, as well as signs. You can also look for a group of people with books!

The timings will roughly be:

2:00-2:30pm - People arrive, grab a drink, share what they're reading
2:30-3:30pm - Quiet reading hour
3:30-4:00pm - Optional socialising, or just keep reading!

The Student Hub will have others using the space and with that comes the usual buzz and chatter. If it’s difficult to read in public, bring noise cancelling headphones or a book light. Whatever makes you comfortable!

If you don't want to read, you may do homework, draw, colour, or any other quiet activity!
